On Friday, Nov. 11,  a police officer saw that a stop sign at the intersection of Hollow Tree Ridge Road and Linden Avenue had been knocked down. At 8 a.m., the officer replaced it with a temporary sign until the town Department of Public Works could replace it.

No good deed goes unpunished: The next day, police were told the sign was missing. The same officer went back to the scene of the crime and confirmed that the sign was, indeed gone. Another one was put up.

A town stop sign costs roughly $75. The crime of stealing a sign like a stop sign is considered sixth-degree laceny — but tampering with a street sign (including stealing one) is a felony.
