A 62-year-old Darien man at Stamford Hospital twice called a person he was barred by a restraining order from contacting, police said, so he was arrested and remains in jail.

Police described the incident and arrest with this account (including accusations not proven in court):

The Darien man had the restraining order after a domestic violence incident. At a 2:38 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, he called the victim from the hospital and struck up a conversation. He later told police he called the victim just to say he was leaving the hospital.

The victim told the man not to come back to the house and reminded him that he wasn’t permitted to contact the victim — then hung up and informed police of the violation of the restraining order.

As police were in the process of getting an arrest warrant approved, he called the victim again at about 11 a.m., Monday. The victim told the man again that he could not come to the house, and he became upset. The victim reported the second violation, and that was added to the warrant.

That day, the man was arrested, charged with two counts of violation of a protective order — felony charges — and held on $50,000 bond.

After appearances in state Superior Court in Stamford, his bond was reduced to $25,000, which has not been posted. He remains in jail, according to the Connecticut Judicial Branch website, with his next court date in early June.

Darienite.com normally won’t release names of people arrested in domestic violence cases unless the allegations are severe or repeated.
