No challengers submitted petitions by the deadline earlier this week to contest the Darien Republican Town Committee’s endorsed candidates for local offices in this year’s elections, RTC Publicity Chair Belinda Metzger said.
The GOP Caucus to make the nominations official takes place on Monday, but all the caucus can do is endorse the slate.
The town committee has endorsed these candidates for offices up for election this year:
- Board of Education (two seats): Dorothy J. McCammon and Christa S. McNamara
- Republican Registrar of Voters: John J. Visi
- Justices of the peace (eight): David Anthony Brown, Eugene F. Coyle, Janet F. Grogan, Cathy A. Hauck, Eric H. Joosten, Brian J. Rayhill, Jayme J. Stevenson, and Terrie E. Wood.
The caucus will take place starting at 7:30 p.m. this Monday in Town Hall Auditorium. Registered Republicans can attend it and vote if they have photo identification.
According to the RTC legal notice on its website:
“Other candidates for endorsement by the caucus may be nominated by petition by submitting to the Chairman or the Secretary of the Darien Republican Town Committee not less than five (5) days prior to the date set for the caucus, a declaration of candidacy, which shall include the candidate’s name as it appears on the Town of Darien’s list of registered voters, the title of the office being sought, and the signatures of twenty-five (25) registered Republican electors of Darien.
“There shall be no nominations from the floor of the caucus. Candidates may not file petitions for more than one office.”
The legal notice adds, “petitions must be submitted on or before Wednesday, May 18, 2016, to Darien RTC Chair, Brent Hayes, 6 Overbrook Lane, Darien, or to Darien RTC Secretary Jacki Calabro, 6 Tulip Tree Lane, Darien. All questions can be referred to Darien RTC Chair Brent Hayes at darienrtc@yahoo.com.”
