Darien Community Association has classes starting Jan. 6 to teach you how to play Mah Jongg, the Chinese game you play with others at a table, using tiles and cards.

Once you’ve learned, the DCA also has ongoing “drop in” games, where reservations are not required (although there is a fee).

Beginning Mah Jongg Classes Start in January 2016

Longtime Darien resident Donna Holt learned Chinese Mah Jongg while living in Singapore. Now an avid American Mah Jongg player, Donna introduces new players to a fascinating world of dragons, dots and craks.

Beginners will learn the basics: how to identify tiles and understand the Mah Jongg card, and how to select and strengthen a winning hand. Rules and strategies of play as well as game etiquette will be covered.

Six Wednesdays, Jan. 6 – Feb. 10
12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
DCA members $75, public $85
Prepayment for all classes is required by noon on Monday, Jan. 4.
Minimum enrollment applies.

Drop-in Mah Jongg

If you already know how to play, and are looking for an active game to join when you can, this is for you. Situated in a private room on the 2nd floor.

Weekly on Tuesdays & Fridays
9:30 a.m. – 12 noon
DCA members $5, public $10
Please bring exact change if paying cash; credit card or check is also accepted.
This is drop-in play, so reservations are not required.
