A man returning to his Maple Street home at about 11 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 20 found it had been ransacked, with cash and jewelry missing from the master bedroom, police said.

Darien police gave this account of what happened:

When the man, who had been working that evening, returned home, he found the back door of the house unlocked and rooms ransacked. He immediately got out of the house and called police at 11:16 p.m.

Police found that most of the house had been riffled through, and there were several attempted points of entry. It appeared that the home had been entered through a bedroom window and the back door was used to leave.

Police detectives are continuing to investigate.

On June 21, a Maple Street resident told police that she thought someone had been close to burglarizing her home when she noticed a flowerpot moved near a window and the window trim damaged.

Overnight from Saturday to Sunday, not far away on Hollow Tree Ridge Road and other streets, several unlocked vehicles were entered, and an attempt was made to steal one just before 12:30 a.m.
