A call from the boat owner, a 47-year-old Darien man, came in at 8:20 p.m. requesting help, according to police. A woman and two other men were in the boat with him after they went swimming during their stay out on the Sound. A severe thunderstorm was coming in quickly, and choppy waves had resulted in water getting in the boat.

The Darien police marine unit towed the boat to shore with its owner in it, and the fire boat took the three passengers to shore.
