Darien native and local artist Peter Saverine will be showing and selling his latest paintings as well as autographed copies of his children’s book, Jenny’s Pennies—A Nantucket Tradition this Saturday and Sunday at the Fairfield Kiwanis Club’s 26th Annual Juried Arts and Crafts Show.

Saverine paints scenes inspired by his life along coastal Fairfield County. Sometimes it’s a Wednesday evening ride by the beach when the youth sailing regatta is winding up before sunset. Other times it’s looking out at Greens Ledge Lighthouse from a Roton Point vantage or walking by Darien’s Rings End bridge.

Peter Saverine, with an art lover

His color blending and simple subject matter has been called, “relaxing, happy, and nostalgic of summer days gone past.” Some of his work is on a smaller scale, which helps make it affordable for many rooms in a home or office. His “miniature paintings” on easels measure just 3 x 3 inches and retail for $20.

“I paint for fun. I paint from memory,” Saverine said. “I tell people some of my paintings can be ‘anywhere you want them to be’. Unlike many artists, I prefer to match my artwork to the audience and make it affordable. I don’t feel there is a minimum price for art if the buyer is inspired by the piece.”

The arts and crafts show takes place on the historic town green on Old Post Road in Fairfield from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is free, and the event takes place rain or shine.
