Charles Emerson McKenney, age 84, of West Palm Beach, Florida passed away peacefully on March 1 in a hospice. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Helaine (“Bobo”).

Born Feb. 28, 1932 in Summit, N.J. to Maurice and Florence of Summit, he graduated from Pingry School in 1950 and Yale University in 1954. He received his law degree from the University of Virginia Law School in 1959, and served as an officer in the U.S. Navy.

A partner at Pennie & Edmonds in New York City, he specialized in patent law. He and his wife raised three children in Darien. He has been a member of the Shinnecock, Devon Yacht Club, and the Beach Club (of Palm Beach).

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Hobby (Matt) Coudert; sons Wensley (Christine) and Philip; and grandchildren, Preston and Emerson McKenney and Matthew and Charlotte Coudert.

Memorial services will be held in Palm Beach (this spring) and the Hamptons (this summer).

Tillman Funeral Home and Crematory in West Palm Beach, Fl. is in charge of arrangements.
