Beatrice J. (“Bippie”) Grubbs died peacefully at her home in Vero Beach on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016. She was 94.

ObitBorn on May 19, 1922 in Enid, Okla., Bippie graduated from Enid High School in 1940 and Swarthmore College in 1944 with a degree in English and Economics. Following graduation, she moved to New York City where she worked as a publicist for the American Rose Grower’s Association.

She married Okla Gatewood Grubbs (“Reddy”) in 1948, and they subsequently moved to Darien, where they raised three children. In 2011, they moved to Vero Beach, Fl. to live there full-time after splitting their time between Vero Beach and Connecticut for more than 20 years.

Bippie was an active member of the Wee Burn Country Club in Darien and the Riomar Golf Club in Vero Beach. She was a three-time winner of the women’s golf Club Championship at Wee Burn.

She also served as a president of the U.S. Senior Women’s Golf Association and was an accomplished, tournament bridge player.

She is survived by her children Stephen Deacon Grubbs of New Canaan; Nan Grubbs Satter of New Paltz, N.Y.; and Michael Gatewood Grubbs of Stilwell, Kans. She is also survived by four grandchildren.

Services will be held at a later date at St. Luke’s Church in Darien.
