The Foodshed Forum, in collaboration with Connecticut Food System Alliance and Greenwich Audubon Center, announce New England Feeding New England: Connecting regional approaches to resilience, conservation ranching and the protection of bird and ecosystem habitat on Tuesday evening, July 9, at the Greenwich Audubon Center. — an announcement from the Greenwich Audubon Center

Please join them for an exploration of the food system with Meg Hourigan, Coordinator of Connecticut Food System Alliance. Hourigan will present research from the New England Food System Planners’ Partnership, “New England Feeding New England: A Regional Approach to Food System Resilience.”

The presentation will outline:

● New England’s potential to be more resilient against climate change through food, and our role in Connecticut

● Why and how we can work together to transform the food system

● Dynamics and patterns in the New England food system that impact regional self-reliance

● The opportunities and challenges in our regional food supply chains and employment, such as:

○ Transition to climate-smart and adaptive food production processes that increase food security;

○ Maintain more local, sustainable, and equitable stewardship of land and water

Most critically, the presentation will discuss how communities can come together to advance solutions toward New England producing 30% of the food they consume by 2030. Following the presentation, Rochelle Thomas, the director of Greenwich Audubon, will integrate the report findings with the steps The National Audubon Society has taken to protect bird and pollinator habitat through three initiatives: Conservation Ranching, Bird Friendly Maple and Birds and Bee Friendly Farming. Ali Ghiorse, co-founder of The Foodshed Forum, will provide opening remarks and facilitation.

Three Darien businessmen who donated dozens of flags for downtown lampposts have been thanked by the town Beautification Commission in a public letter. “On behalf of the Darien Beautification Commission, we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for the generous donation of the American flags that you sourced, purchased and assembled,” commission members said in a letter to the three businessmen: David Hawes, head of the Hawes Team at Compass real estate; David Campbell, CEO and president of Rings End Lumber and John Hertz, one of the founders of Hollow Tree Self Storage. “Your support played a pivotal role in the success of the celebration of Memorial Day and towards the overall beautification of Darien, and we are immensely grateful for your contribution. “To have the flags flying from the town lampposts is not only beautiful but also serves to remind the town of the sacrifice that so many have made for our freedom,” the letter continued. “We have received positive feedback, and it is clear that your contribution to the town’s appearance makes a significant difference.”

Two young Stamford men driving on the Post Road were racing with each other, at least one witness told police shortly before 7:23 p.m. The cars hit each other, and one ended up in the parking area of a multifamily house, where it struck three parked vehicles, police said. Darien police gave this account of the incident, including accusations not proven in court:

The incident happened on Friday, May 17 on the Post Road near Hillside Avenue. When police looked at the cars being driven by the men, they saw damage on the left side of one vehicle and on the right side of the other. The car that did not go into the parking area was found on the side of the Post Road. Video recordings in the area showed both vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed and both losing control before crashing.
