Sacred Heart University hosted the annual Kristallnacht Commemoration at the Chapel of the Holy Spirit on Nov. 8, 2017. The guest speaker was Rabbi Herbert N. Brockman from Congregation Mishkan Israel in Hamden.

Sacred Heart University hosted the annual Kristallnacht Commemoration at the Chapel of the Holy Spirit on Nov. 8, 2017. The guest speaker was Rabbi Herbert N. Brockman from Congregation Mishkan Israel in Hamden.

Altmann was arrested and transported to the Auschwitz concentration camp in 1944. She will tell her story of survival and hope.

Kristallnacht, or the “Night of Broken Glass,” took place in Germany 80 years ago and was the violent event during which Nazis broke the windows of Jewish businesses, schools and synagogues, resulting in death, arrests and the beginning stages of the Holocaust.

The commemoration takes place at the Chapel of the Holy Spirit at Sacred Heart University, 5151 Park Avenue, Fairfield on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at 2 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Sacred Heart University’s Office of Mission & Catholic Identity and theHuman Journey Colloquia Series are sponsoring the event.
