Overnight Friday to Saturday, a 2020 Volvo XC60 was stolen after it was left unlocked outside a home on Horseshoe Road. Within a day, the SUV was found in Waterbury. Inside the vehicle, Darien police detectives found items stolen the same night from another unlocked vehicle outside a Brookside Road house.
When police went to the Brookside Road victim’s home to tell her what they’d found, she told them she hadn’t realized her purse had been stolen. It held various bank cards, identification and keys.
The victim told officers that she’d received a text message earlier that day about activity on one of her cards, but she didn’t think anything of it because she didn’t realize the cards had been stolen. Her account showed several unauthorized purchases in Waterbury.
During the same overnight period, a home security camera outside a Briar Brae Road home recorded a male come to the driveway at 2:45 a.m. and enter an unlocked 2021 Jeep Wrangler through the front passenger door. The male checked storage compartments inside for about 30 seconds, then left. Nothing was reported missing.
