Four teenage girls in a car parked on or near Allwood Road were detained Thursday night by Darien police, who said they found at least one of them had been drinking and throwing bottles from the vehicle.
Police gave this additional information on what happened, including accusations not proven in court:
When a town resident told police at 9:24 p.m. that youths were throwing bottles from a vehicle, officers responding to the report found the girls.
The car belonged to a girl, 16, who had a backpack with her that held alcoholic drinks. Another girl in the car was driving. All four passengers in the car are New Canaan residents.
The girl with the backpack was charged with possession of alcohol by a minor on a public street, an infraction, and each of the girls was held until they were released to their parents.
Correction: This article originally stated that the driver was the one with the backpack and who was drinking. The police report actually said the person with the backpack was a passenger, and that girl was the one charged with drinking. The original article also said all four girls were drinking, but the police report did not say that and no one else was charged in the incident.
