Update, 5:58 p.m.: Schools Superintendent Alan Addley has told Darien elementary school parents that the district will tell them about other opportunities for getting vaccinations after reservations for a town sponsored clinic were snapped up quickly — in roughly as little as half an hour, according to one parent.
“We will communicate all opportunities for vaccination with you in a timely manner,” Addley said in an email Darienite.com received at 12:30 p.m., Thursday.
An earlier announcement about the availability of registration for the clinic went out at 7:15 p.m., Wednesday.
Darien resident Liz Anderson Steinke posted a comment on Darienite’s Facebook post linking to the story, saying, “They [registration slots] were filled up in half an hour, give or take. Hopefully the town will expand the time slots or add more clinics as demand is clearly there.”
Here’s the full text of Addley’s email to parents:
“We wanted to reach out to you after an overwhelming response to the DarienDepartment’s COVID vaccination clinics for school-aged children. We are encouraged by the level of demand for vaccine and are working closely with the Darien Health Department and other local agencies to provide information about other vaccination opportunities for your children. We will communicate all opportunities for vaccination with you in a timely manner.
“We appreciate your sense of urgency to pursue a vaccine appointment for your child(ren) and request your patience and understanding at this time.”

If you haven’t signed up for Darien’s four days of vaccine clinics for children 5 to 11 years old, it’s too late to sign up now. According to the online registration Web pages, all slots were filled sometime before 7:30 a.m., Thursday.
The opening of online registration was announced at 7:15 p.m., Wednesday.
Darien parents don’t need to get vaccines through the town government clinics, the announcement said: “You may also seek a vaccine appointment elsewhere: through an online COVID vaccine search, Stamford Hospital, or your child’s primary care provider.”
The Pfizer-BioNTech pediatric vaccine will be given at the Darien clinics, according to the announcement from school district Nursing Director Alicia Casucci and town Health Director David Knauf.

Separately, Casucci and schools Superintendent Alan Addley announced that three people in the school district had tested positive for COVID-19, each of whom had last been in school buildings on Monday, Nov. 1.
All were told to remain in self-isolation for 10 days, according to district policy. Two of those who tested positive were at Darien High School (one case resulted in four others being instructed to go into self-isolation) and one at Middlesex Middle School (with no others going into self-isolation).
