Leaving your vehicle unlocked overnight for just anybody to go inside is not terribly unusual in town — it could almost be called a Darien tradition (except it’s being done in almost all other towns).
But something different happened just before 4 a.m., Saturday on Mansfield Place.
The owner, who reported the matter to police at 3:58 a.m., told police that the keys had been left inside the unlocked 2016 Jeep Cherokee.
Nothing appeared to be missing from the Jeep — also not unusual.
What was unusual was that the engine was left running.
The vehicle was parked in the middle of several others in the driveway — which had apparently prevented it from being driven away.
