The week kicked off Monday at Tokeneke Elementary School where 5th grade students participated in their Moving Up ceremony. The ceremony included short music performances, presentation of awards, and the opportunity for the Grade 5 class to present their class gift — a new flag for the school (pictured above). Principal Mary Michelson and Assistant Principal Kathy Schulz presided over the day’s events.

“As we get ready to say goodbye to our graduates, it is time to reflect upon their lives here at school. We ask that you take a moment and say to yourself,  ‘When did I blink?’ Take a look at your child and think about that for a moment,” said Schulz in her speech. She then cited a series of famous children’s author quotes that reflected the journey across elementary school, ending with one from Dr. Suess.

“You have brains in your head, you have feet in your shoes, you can steer yourself in any direction you choose.  You are off to great places, today is your day,  your mountain is waiting … so get on your way!” said Schulz.
