A middle-aged woman visiting Beadz Boutique at 1094 Post Road gave store clerks her name and phone number because she wanted more information about getting some jewelry repaired, police said.

Then, police said, the woman stole some items from the store, as seen and recorded by the store’s security camera. Police say they believe the name and contact information the woman gave the store are accurate.

Darien police gave this account of the incident (accusations not proven in court) involving a woman who had not been arrested at the time police gave out information:

The woman (not from Darien), entered the store at about 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 2 and stayed for a substantial amount of time, asking to see several high-priced items in the store. When store management became suspicious, they reviewed surveillance video records.

The tapes showed the woman putting on some rings, then put them “on her person” before leaving the store without paying for them. The value of the rings could be anywhere from $58 to $300. The woman also took strands of beads valued at $58 for two.

The incident was reported to police the next day. An investigation was continuing at the time police made the report public.
