For the third consecutive year The Undies Project Inc. held its very successful Undie Sundays donation drive.

Thirteen local area churches and synagogues have already participated in Undie Sundays collecting over 4,200 pairs of new underwear for those in need. “This is incredible”, said Laura Delaflor, a co-president of The Undies Project.

“In our first year we collected 1,443 pairs of underwear with the drive being hosted only in Greenwich in May. Now, in addition to Greenwich, houses of worship in Darien, Westport, Wilton, Norwalk and Stamford are participating as well. We hope to add even more towns next year.”
The underwear collected is distributed to the 20 organizations The Undies Project now helps in Lower Fairfield and Westchester Counties.
The list continues to grow but currently includes:
Bridgeport Rescue Mission; CHOICE NY; Clothes to Kids of Fairfield County; Don Bosco Community Center; Homes with Hope; Homeless Outreach Team; Inspirica; Kids in Crisis; Kids Kloset; Malta House; Mothers for Others; Neighbor to Neighbor; New Covenant Center; Open Doors; Pacific House; Person to Person; Project Return; Salvation Army; The Sharing Shelf & YWCA Domestic Abuse Services.
The Undies Project became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in November 2016. Its mission is to provide new underwear to men, women, and children in need in order to improve their lives.
“Underwear is the most under donated, and most needed, item of clothing that no one should be deprived of”, said Co-President Lucy Langley. “New, clean underwear provides dignity & self esteem and for many it is a necessity, not a luxury.”
In Greenwich, Congregation Shir Ami, First Congregational Church of Old Greenwich, St. Catherine’s of Siena, First United Methodist, Holy Trinity and St. Roch’s have participated in Undie Sundays.
In Stamford Zion Lutheran, St. John’s Episcopal and First Presbyterian Churches held collections.
In addition, St. John’s in Darien, Christ & Holy Trinity and Green’s Farms in Westport and Zion’s Hill United Methodist in Wilton have all held Undie Sundays drives.
Delaflor said, “The congregations of these churches and synagogues have been tremendously generous and they have truly helped to make the lives of those less fortunate better. We can’t thank them enough for their support.”
