Perhaps the would-be thief didn’t know that FedEx drivers would be acting against company policy to leave packages on doorsteps without getting a signature with identification. Perhaps he thought he could get the driver to give it to him anyway. In any event, a potential porch pirate didn’t get a package that was addressed to a vacant house on Edmond Street and to a person who, naturally, doesn’t live there. In fact, as far as police know, no one with that name ever lived there. Darien police gave this further description of the incident last Thursday, Dec.

A small purse with $200 in cash in it was stolen from a bedroom closet in a home on Harriet Lane on Friday, Sept. 13 while movers were in the house, Darien police were told the next day. Although movers were in the house from about 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m., no one from the moving company had any reason to open the closet or touch the purse, the complainant told police. The purse was known to be missing by 5 p.m.

Also in the purse were personal identification papers, Social Security cards and passports. Some foreign currency that was in the purse was found on the closet floor.

A Pembroke Road woman looked outside to see a woman with a package in her hands, and the woman thought the package was being delivered — as it was being stolen. Here’s what police said about the theft:

On Wednesday, Aug. 14, a woman heard a vehicle pull into her driveway on Pembroke Road. When she looked outside, she saw a woman on her front porch holding an Amazon package. The woman didn’t think anything was wrong because she assumed the package was being delivered.
