They will present the fundamental tools necessary to establish a Special Needs Trust and help family members understand the concepts and essential strategies critical in developing a personal plan. She is known for her sensitivity and ease with clients; letting them set the pace for what can often be very emotionally difficult situations, particularly regarding estate planning or administration of estates.

The 12th Annual STAR Walk, 5K Run & Roll will be held at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport, CT on Sunday, May 7, 2017. The “Walk” includes a Family Fun Day celebration and fundraiser to benefit individuals who have intellectual disabilities and programs offered by STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the Walk kick-off is 10 a.m., with a 1K walking route suitable for any ability (walkers, strollers, wheelchairs and baby joggers are welcome) and an officially-timed 5K Run along the site’s shoreline and pathways. Attendees can enjoy continental breakfast and grilled hot dogs for lunch as well as music, crafts, kids’ fun bus, face-painting, balloon sculpting, yard games, nature center exhibit, and children’s obstacle course. About 800 walkers and volunteers are expected to attend including a traditional array of local celebrities and political leaders.
Lee Gardella, a Darien resident and senior at Fairfield College Preparatory School, recently received a service award, along with several other students, from the Community Fund of Darien at their 37th annual Volunteer Recognition Day which was held on Friday, May 20th, 2016. Lee was recognized for his dedication to STAR and his volunteer efforts which went well beyond the scope of his high school service requirements. Lee has been an active volunteer with STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way (STAR) for quite some time, helping out with the Theater of STARS program, the Annual Gala testimonials, and the 11th annual STAR walk & 5K run, where he helped to raise over $3,000. STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way is a not–for-profit organization established in 1952 to serve individuals of all ages who have intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as providing support services to their families. STAR creates opportunities for individuals to live full lives with independence, freedom of choice and personal growth by providing support, services and advocacy.
The 11th Annual STAR Walk, 5K Run & Roll will be held on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport. Participants of all abilities will run, walk or roll the accessible routes with neighbors, friends, family members, staff, supporters, corporate teams, state and city officials and the general public.
Walkers can choose handicapped accessible routes of 1 or 3 miles. Entertainment is provided by STAR’s Rubberband. Healthy breakfast snacks and refreshments are also provided followed by a cookout picnic lunch. Family activities include the Fun Bus, face painting, clowns, temporary tattoos, yard games, dancing and crafts. Joining the Walk, 5K Run & Roll is easy!
Notable Connecticut runners including Chaz Davis, Amy Dixon and James Randon will all be at the 11th Annual STAR Walk and 5K Run at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport on Sunday, May 1. On hand at the event:
Chaz Davis, a paralympic athlete, was stricken with Leber Hereditary Optic Neuropathy that eventually led to blindness but did not cease his running or studies at University of Hartford. Amy Dixon, a UCONN grad, is a paratriathlete for Team USA who has done inspirational speaking and hosted conferences for Challenged Athletes Foundation and organizations for the blind. James Randon, a New Canaan native, has already shattered historic running records as a student at Yale University, breaking the four-minute mile barrier. The Walk, Run & Roll will also include appearances by Miss Connecticut USA Tiffany Teixeira, Miss Teen Connecticut USA Katy Brown, the Marvin Dancers, STORM of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers Hockey Team, Steve Avitabile Musician, children’s activities and demonstrations by Earthplace of Westport FUNBUS, and Painted You (face painting and air brush tattoos).
