Two More Unlocked Vehicles Entered Overnight in Darien

Before a slew of unlocked vehicles were entered overnight Saturday to Sunday, items were stolen from two others in Darien, the owners told police. Here are the details of what happened and where, according to police reports:
1 Tulip Tree Lane, Sunday to Monday
Sometime overnight, Sunday to Monday, Aug. 13 to 14, a gray 2015 Ford Escape parked outside the house was entered and a briefcase with a laptop in it was taken. On Monday morning, the owner realized that the SUV had been entered because the glove box had been left open, but didn’t realize anything had been taken. He thought he had probably left the vehicle unlocked.

Unlocked Car Entered at Restaurant Parking Lot

A 45-year-old Greenwich man forgot to lock his gray 2014 BMW 550xi in the parking lot of Shake Shack late one recent afternoon and returned to it about 20 minutes later. In that 20 minutes, someone entered it and riffled through the glove box, leaving papers on the car floor. It seemed nothing had been taken. The owner parked the car in the back part of the Shake Shack lot near Old Kings Highway South at about 4:10 p.m. on Thursday, May 4. By 5:13 p.m., police were called, but when they arrived, the man had already driven off. Police were able to call him and talk with him.

Car Window Smashed, Laptop and Purse Taken on Old Kings Hwy North

A car’s front passenger window was smashed and a laptop and pocketbook was stolen from the floor in front of the passenger seat last Wednesday evening, Feb. 8 in the parking lot of a business on Old Kings Highway North, police said. The car was parked while the owner, a 45-year-old Norwalk woman, was at the Old Kings Highway Tennis Club at 98 Old Kings Hwy. N. The woman arrived at 7:15 p.m. and discovered the theft and damaged car at 9:15 p.m.

There was no sign of a rock or anything else near the car that might have been used to smash the side window of the 2009 Lexus LS 250. That and the fact that the car was parked outside a recreational business is making police wonder whether the theft could have been perpetrated by the Felony Lane Gang, which targets parking lots connected to parks and fitness clubs.

Unlocked Vehicles Entered Overnight on Holmes Ave

Three unlocked vehicles parked overnight on Holmes Avenue were entered overnight from Saturday to Sunday, Jan. 21 to 22, but nothing was reported stolen. The car and two SUVs — two of them in driveways — were left unlocked despite numerous thefts and attempted thefts from unlocked vehicles in the area. All three vehicles were parked on the section of the street south of Middlesex Road, in the area between 80 and 100 Holmes Ave. A woman, 32, told police that her white 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe had been parked in her driveway overnight.

Car Entered Overnight as It Sat in Garage of Red Rose Circle Home

Sometime Overnight from Sunday to Monday, Jan. 8 to 9, a car parked overnight in the garage of a house on Red Rose Circle was entered, Darien police were told. The owner of the 2014 Audi Q5 said his wife parked it in the garage at 9 p.m. and thought she’d locked the overhead garage door and the door from the garage to the house. At about 7:30 a.m., the man, 37, noticed that the overhead garage door was open and the car’s glove box was open, its contents on the seat. It didn’t seem to the victim that anything was missing.
