Customer Service at the Stamford Station — an ‘Ambassador’ But Not Proper Signage: Cameron on Transportation

Anthony Scasino is an ambassador, not for a foreign country, but for Metro-North. He doesn’t have a consulate or embassy, just the Stamford train station as his headquarters. Scasino is one of six Customer Service Ambassadors (CSA) who work at the railroad’s busiest stations — White Plains, Harlem, 125th Street, Fordham, New Rochelle, Croton-Harmon and Stamford. After a six-month trial, the CSA program is now permanent and may be expanded. Scasino has worked for Metro-North for six and a half years, having previously been a ticket agent at Stamford.

Bobby has every kid’s dream job: he’s an engineer for Metro-North. But Bobby isn’t his real name because he’s asked for anonymity so he can speak candidly about his work. “I used to love this job,” he says. “But I still take pride in it. Not just anybody can drive a train safely and smoothly.”

Bobby has worked for the railroad for more than 20 years.

While construction is taking place on I-95 at Exit 9 east of Stamford this Saturday and Sunday, June 1 and 2, Metro-North will add cars to its service to accommodate additional riders. Customers should expect the possibility of crowded conditions. — This announcement, incompetently buried (for how long?) on Metro-North’s website, was dug up Friday morning. After this article appeared, it was posted on the Metro-North home page. For customers traveling to the Yankee games at Yankee Stadium on Saturday and Sunday, Metro-North will operate a second Yankee Clipper train from New Haven, as well as the regularly scheduled train from Stamford, with additional return service after the game:

ConnDOT’s New Commish Should’ve Been Talking to More Commuters by Now: Cameron on Transportation

A good boss cares about his customers.  He wants to keep them happy and actively seeks out their feedback.  Such is not the case at the Connecticut Department of Transportation. The CDOT’s new Commissioner, Joseph Giulietti, has missed several important opportunities to interface with riders in his first 100 days in office.  Not that he hasn’t been working. He just hasn’t been meeting with customers. Remember that Giulietti came to his new job after a stint as President of Metro-North and in that role he held a number of “meet-the-commuter” events, handling himself quite well in answering questions and defusing angry riders. A year ago, after leaving the railroad, he became a consultant to T Y Lin’s study of how to improve running times on the railroad to achieve the “30-30-30” dream espoused by the Fairfield Business Council’s Joe McGee.  That $400,000 study, using Giulietti’s input, said it could be done.

Metro-North: Expect a Longer Train Commute With Infrastructure Work on New Haven Line

Infrastructure work on the New Haven Line will mean longer trips for commuters and others — 1 to 6 minutes for peak hours and 1 to 11 minutes for off-peak trips and on weekends, according to Metro-North. For the New Canaan Branch, trips will be lengthened anywhere from 1 to 16 minutes, Metro-North says. New train schedules coming out on April 14 will reflect the longer trip times. Here’s Metro-North’s announcement, from its March Mileposts newsletter:
Our new timetables effective April 14 on the Hudson, Harlem and New Haven lines are designed to reflect more accurately how the railroad’s progressive infrastructure improvement plan affects train running times, resulting in more reliable, dependable and safe service for our customers. Most of our trains will have an adjusted schedule, anywhere from one minute to, in some cases, 16 minutes on the Connecticut branch lines.

Metro-North Says New Haven Line Service To Be 10-15 Minutes Late Until Fire Damage Repaired

A fire that knocked out some electrical equipment in Milford just after midnight on Tuesday is resulting in train delays of 10 to 15 minutes between Stamford and New Haven until the equipment is replaced, Metro-North says. In an announcement on Tuesday, Metro-North didn’t say how long it will take until the problem is fixed. The “power substation” damaged in the fire is in Milford, just east of the Devon Moveable Bridge, a railroad bridge spanning the Housatonic River close to the Interstate 95 bridge between Stratford and Milford. The Metro-North Announcement
Here’s the full text of the announcement, including pictures provided by Metro-North:

At approximately 12:15 a.m. this morning (Feb. 19, 2019) there was a circuit breaker failure resulting in a fire at an overhead traction power substation located east of Devon Moveable Bridge in Connecticut (see image at right of an overhead substation).
