Flag Day Ceremony at Darien Town Hall

The Monuments and Ceremonies Commission will hold our annual Flag Day Observance at the Veterans Memorial Circle at Town Hall at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14. “All are invited to bring their old, weathered flags. Members of the VFW will accept the old and used flags for proper disposal at a later date, and have a brief flag ceremony, lowering an old flag and raising a new one. The Monuments & Ceremonies Commission urges all citizens to take note of the program placed in motion this year by State Representative Terrie Wood, and replace their tattered and worn flags. Representative Wood has established drop points around Town, at the Public Library, Town Hall, and the Darien VFW (open after 4pm daily).”

Reminder: Still Time to Drop Off Damaged, Worn American Flags for Proper Disposal

When American flags get damaged, they’re supposed to be retired — and when they’re ripped, faded, tattered, torn and otherwise unsightly, it’s time to dispose of them in a proper, respectful manner. So state Rep. Terrie Wood, Darien VFW Post No. 6933 (at 205 Noroton Ave.), Darien Library and Darien Town Hall are sponsoring a collection of Old Glories that are too indisposed for display. You can drop them off any time between May 26 and June 14 at three locations around town. Keep in mind that with patriotic holidays coming up — Memorial Day, Monday, May 29 and the Fourth of July five weeks later (not to mention Flag Day on June 14), you might want a finer flag flapping on your flagpole.
