Donald Paul Smith, former resident of Darien for 48 years and a town registrar of voters for 20 years, died peacefully in Maryland on April 3, 2019. Born July 24, 1930, he was husband of deceased Barbara (“Bobbie”) Smith and father of sons Don and Chris Smith of Chicago and Columbia, Maryland, both mid-1970s Darien High School graduates. He was best known for his retirement activities of founding therapy dog programs in Fairfield County to help comfort hospice and hospital patients. He also founded library reading programs to help challenged children who preferred reading aloud to his non-judgmental therapy dogs than classmates. — This obituary previously was published in the Darien Times

Gertrude J. (Gerrie) Graham, 80, of Norwalk passed away Tuesday, April 2 at the Brightview Assisted Living Center in Norwalk. Mrs. Graham was born Oct. 11, 1938 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. She is the daughter of William and Josephine (Kaleta) Engle. She married Milton Russell Graham on June 13, 1959 at Munn Avenue Presbyterian Church in East Orange, New York.

Manuel Joseph Perez, the beloved husband of Janet Williams Shaw, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at the age of 79. He was born on Jan. 15, 1940 in Newburgh, New York, the son of Manuel and Madeline (Paolini) Perez. As a child, Manny loved books, reading, listening to stories on the radio and watching movies, which laid the foundation for his life’s work. On a Naval ROTC scholarship, Manny graduated from the University of Rochester in 1962 with a degree in clinical psychology.

Patricia Moll Pohlmann, 83, died peacefully, surrounded by family members, at Providence Point in Pittsburgh on March 30, 2019. Born in Chicago on Jan. 30, 1936, the daughter of the late Eugene and Helen Moll, she was raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. Growing up, Pat was an outstanding swimmer in major competitions across the country including the U.S. Olympic Trials. She graduated from Indiana University in 1958 and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.

It is with sorrow and sympathy that the Cavett family shares the peaceful passing of Donald Turpin Cavett on Thursday, March 28. Donald, 85 years old, was a longtime resident and employee of the Town of Darien. Don was born on May 12, 1933 in Lynn, Massachusetts to the late Edwin and Cornelia Cavett, and he spent his childhood years growing up in Marblehead, Massachusetts. After graduating from St. John’s Prep. of Danvers, Massachusetts, in 1951, he went on to receive his bachelor of science in Commerce from the University of Notre Dame, in 1955, and later pursued an MBA at Boston College.
