Bruce E. Beagley Jr., a longtime resident of Stamford, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Oct. 12, 2017. He was two weeks shy of his 101st birthday. Raised in a small town in Indiana, Bruce enrolled in the University of Indiana in 1938, and signed up for Naval R.O.T.C to help with tuition. In the summer of 1941, anticipating the coming conflict and needing officers, the Navy pulled him out of school and commissioned him.

Charles Henry Micha, 69, passed away Oct. 6, 2017 in his home in Hudson, Fl., after a courageous battle against cancer. Charlie was born March 26, 1948 in Stamford to Charles & Doris Micha. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Midway and U.S.S. Hornet, which picked up the Apollo 11 & 12 moon shots. Charlie was very passionate and well respected in all that he endeavored to do.

Luan Carter Shea, 62, passed away after a courageous battle with sarcoma on Sunday Oct. 15, surrounded by family and close friends. Luan was born June 4, 1955 in Stamford. She spent her childhood in Darien, graduating from Darien High School in 1973 and from the University of Bridgeport in 1978, with a bachelor of science degree. She embarked on a career in pediatric nursing at Stamford Hospital and transitioned to head of nursing for their cystic fibrosis program prior to her diagnosis.

Lisbeth “Betty” Leonard of Southbury,  formerly of Darien, passed peacefully on Sept. 27, having just reached her 98th birthday on Sept. 11. She retained her sweetness and cheerfulness to the very end, and will be missed by all who knew her. During nearly 60 years in Darien, she was very much a part of the community, singing for many years in the First Presbyterian Church choir and the Greenwich Choral Society.

Elizabeth Bacon “Betty” McCoy of Darien passed away on Sept. 25, 2017 at the age of 103. Born on Nov. 2, 1913 in Charleston, S.C., Betty received her Bachelor of Arts degree from George Washington University and then married Ralph Richard McCoy in 1935. Inducted in 1932 into the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, she recently received an award for 75 years of membership.

June Irmiger Taylor, 84, of New Haven, and formerly of Chicago and Darien, passed away on Aug. 11. She was born to the late Robert Irmiger, a Chicago attorney, and the late Margaret Cusack Irmiger, a teacher and guidance counselor. June was a graduate of Vassar College, where she received her bachelor’s degree, and Teachers College of Columbia University, where she received a master of science degree. She was a doctoral candidate in anthropology at Columbia University.

Carol (Armstrong) Sargent, a resident of Darien, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 21. She is survived by her loving husband, Scott Sargent and a son, Timothy Sargent. Born on May 18, 1958, Carol grew up in Ridgefield and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Central Connecticut State University in 1980 with a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. She joined the Children’s Learning Centers of Fairfield County in 1981 as a head teacher and worked her way up to director of school readiness programs.

She enjoyed working as the director of the Children’s Learning Center in Stamford for 36 years just as much as she enjoyed watching the New England Patriots.
