Luan Carter Shea, 62, passed away after a courageous battle with sarcoma on Sunday Oct. 15, surrounded by family and close friends.
Luan was born June 4, 1955 in Stamford. She spent her childhood in Darien, graduating from Darien High School in 1973 and from the University of Bridgeport in 1978, with a bachelor of science degree.
She embarked on a career in pediatric nursing at Stamford Hospital and transitioned to head of nursing for their cystic fibrosis program prior to her diagnosis.
Luan was an avid sports fan, enjoyed relaxing on the beach, catching up with friends and above all being a mom and nana to her daughters and grandson. She was a beloved and respected nurse, known to embrace and love her patients and their families as fiercely as her own.

Luan seized life to its fullest as she conquered multiple surgeries and chemotherapy regimens with grace, humor and her famous smile.
Luan Shea is survived by her three daughters: Emily Kowalski, Laura Interlandi, and Caitlin Block; and their spouses: Matthew Kowalski and Haig Biddulph; her grandson Lukas Kowalski; her brother Thompson Shea, sister-in-law Deborah Shea and niece Meagan Shea; her aunt Nancy Bishop, and her adored Siamese cats, Chaz and Mia.
A celebration of her life will be held 11 a.m., Saturday Oct. 21, 2017 at Saint Luke’s Parish, 1864 Post Road in Darien.
