State Police Seize 420 Pounds of Marijuana in UHaul Stopped on Interstate 95 in Darien

State police say they seized 420 pounds of pot from a UHaul truck troopers stopped on Interstate 95 on Friday, according to various news accounts. “Troopers from Troop G stopped a truck on I-95 in Darien,” state police tweeted. When something didn’t smell right, the big dogs were called in.” Police did not say why the truck was stopped by Troop G. The troop, based in Bridgeport, patrols this area of state highways. The following account includes accusations not proven in court:

Police stopped the truck on the highway in Darien at about 12:30 p.m., Friday on the southbound-traffic side of the highway.

Darien Police Announce Three-Month-Old Arrest of Darien Man, 49, on Drug-Related Charges

On May 2, Richard Paulus, 49, of Greenwood Avenue in Darien was arrested by Darien police on narcotics charges. Police did not announce the arrest for three months, until it was mentioned  in passing in an Aug. 12 news release about recent police reports, including one in which Paulus was again arrested, this time on a charge of failure to appear in court on the May 2 charges. Here’s what information Darien police have released about the case, including accusations not proven in court:

On Thursday, Aug. 8, Darien police were notified by the State’s Attorney’s Office in Stamford that there was an active bench warrant for Paulus and that he was in state custody.

Police: Two Charged With Cocaine Possession When Car Stopped for Lack of a Front License Plate

When a car was stopped by a police officer who saw there was no front license plate on it, a passenger wanted on an arrest warrant was taken into custody, and a search of the car found cocaine, so both the arrested man and the driver were charged with drug possession, police said. Darien police described what happened with this account, including accusations not proven in court:

At about 11:42 a.m. on Monday, June 24, the officer, who was on patrol, saw the car, a 2014 Toyota Corolla, being driven on Old Kings Highway North. Not only was there no front license plate, but the one attached to the rear was for another car — an Acura. The driver was Nathan Leon, 72, of Bridgeport. He had a valid driver’s license, but the car he was driving wasn’t registered.

A 29-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman were found by police on Dec. 31 in possession of heroin, needles and a cell phone that had just been stolen from a downtown Darien business, according to police. Darien police described what happened with this account, including accusations not proven in court:

An employee at the Verizon store at 1075 Post Road called police at 1:05 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 31 to tell them a phone had just been stolen from the store. The employee gave police a description of a young man and woman.
