Police say they were told by a caller at 9:55 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20, that what looked like an alarm clock was near one of the stairways to a platform at the Noroton Heights Railroad Station.

Darien police described what happened this way:

Since it was out of place, it appeared suspicious. The caller did just what authorities have asked people to do: If you see something, say something.

Police went to the station and saw just what the caller said was there: an analog clock near the bottom of one of the stairways.

Trains on the New Haven Line going through the area were stopped as Darien and Metropolitan Transportation Authority police agencies checked out the device.

A trained MTA bomb-sniffing dog was brought in and took some sniffs. It turned out that sometimes a clock is just a clock.

The canine performed a sweep of the entire area and didn’t pick up the scent of any explosive material. Train service was returned to normal.
