Those wanting to get their 15 minutes of fame, or just some recognition for taking a great photo with their phone, can enter the Darien Arts Center’s smartphone photo contest, Pic Darien, through April 4.
The contest is open to all: there is no age limit, and contestants do not need to be a Darien resident to enter. Those entering the contest will get to see their snapshots up on a big screen at two upcoming DAC events.
The first, a complimentary Award and Reveal Reception is on April 8 from 7 to 9 p.m. and open to the public. A slideshow set to music will debut the winning photographs as well as all other photo entries on the DAC Weatherstone Studio’s 184” HD movie screen.
Prizes will be awarded and refreshments will be served. The slideshow will also be shown during the intermission of the popular talent competition Darien’s Got Talent on June 25 at Darien High School.
The public may enter smart phone photos into the contest at darienarts.org through midnight of April 4.
Contestants may enter either as a student (age 15 or under) for $5 or as an adult (age 16 and over) for $10 in one of seven themed prize categories.
Categories are My Darien, Family and Friends, Landscapes/Nature, Travel, Pets, Abstract and Photobomb/Selfie. Up to 20 photo submissions per person are allowed.
First place and Honorable Mention cash prizes will be awarded to adults and children in all seven categories. First place prizes for adults are $100 and the adult honorable mention prizes are $25. First place prizes for students are $50, with the student honorable mention prizes awarding $15.
Nationally published professional photographer, Alix Martinez of Darien, will judge the contest, a fundraiser, which is sponsored by Darien Rowayton Bank, Geary Gallery and Adelaide Fine Art.
