When you flee from police who tell you to stop because they suspect you of a crime, that’s a crime in itself, and one Darien man, 23, was arrested for that last Saturday, Darien police said.

Police described what happened with this account, including accusations not proven in court:

Police were alerted by a burglar alarm at Town Hall at 7:28 p.m., so officers were dispatched to the building at 2 Renshaw Road. When they arrived, they saw the man, who lives on nearby Crimmins Road. He was riding a longboard skateboard in the area of the building.

Two different officers at two different times told the man to stop, but he fled and officers ran after him. The short foot pursuit ended when the man ran into his home. Officers followed him in — not knowing if the man even lived there.

He was arrested on a charge of interfering with an officer and released on a promise to appear in state Superior Court in Stamford on Oct. 4.

He told police he ran because he was intimidated by police. He did not say that he tried to get into Town Hall.

Police checked the building and found no evidence that anyone had tried to get in — not the first time that they found nothing after an alarm.
