When you flee from police who tell you to stop because they suspect you of a crime, that’s a crime in itself, and one Darien man, 23, was arrested for that last Saturday, Darien police said. Police described what happened with this account, including accusations not proven in court:

Police were alerted by a burglar alarm at Town Hall at 7:28 p.m., so officers were dispatched to the building at 2 Renshaw Road. When they arrived, they saw the man, who lives on nearby Crimmins Road. He was riding a longboard skateboard in the area of the building. Two different officers at two different times told the man to stop, but he fled and officers ran after him.

A 61-year-old homeless man, Robert Houseworth, was arrested on a charge of interfering with an officer who was called to the scene Sunday afternoon when the man yelled and swore at a homeowner, police said. Darien police gave this account of the incident:

The man who complained to police on Sunday had put a piece of furniture in his driveway on the 2700 block of Post Road near the Stamford border. A sign saying “Free” was attached to the furniture. Houseworth — who gave a West Side Stamford address to police when later asked for his own address — came by sometime before 5:17 p.m. and asked if anything else in the driveway was also free. The homeowner said that none of it was, which made the homeless man irate.
