Peter Van Vleet Young, who grew up in Darien, passed away on March 25, 2021 at home in New Canaan, with his family by his side. He was 84.
Peter was born in Stamford, May 6, 1936, to Lloyd and Dorothy Young. He graduated from Berkshire School and Suffolk University. Peter married Georgia Schenck of Grosse Pointe Michigan in October 1958. Peter served in the U.S. Army. Peter worked at Union Trust Bank, becoming vice chairman before he retired.
Throughout the years, Peter served on the board at Low Heywood School, Berkshire School, the Stamford Museum and Woodway Country Club.
He was an avid golfer and served on the board of the Junior Senior Golf Association and co-founded the Anguilla Golf Association. Peter was a member of the Mahogany Grove Church in Anguilla where he and Georgia spent many winters. Peter enjoyed boating, restoration of antique cars and traveling.
Peter is survived by his wife, Georgia Young; and his children: Christie Young, Todd Van Vleet Young, Todd’s wife, Lorna, Dana Goering and her husband, Dean. He is also survived by his four grandchildren: Peter Van Vleet Young II, Lila Rachel Young, Hunter Van Vleet Goering and Georgia Emily Goering.
There will be a private service at Talmadge Hill Church.
