Planning & Zoning Commission Chair Susan Cameron doesn’t like the unusual roof line proposed by architects for Shake Shack, the popular high-end, fast-food joint with a new location proposed on the Post Road.
A water main has broken on Mansfield Avenue, causing police to block the road near its intersection with Mansfield Place and detour traffic.

The National Weather Service issued this regional “Special Weather Statement” Saturday morning along with a “Wind Chill Warning.” The statement lists various dangers in unusually frigid weather for people, pets, houses and cars. Some of it is obvious, but even that is worth remembering. Please don’t get distracted, and pay attention: It’s different out there. Aquarion Water Co. announced Friday that water on various streets in town (see list, below) may discolor water and create low water pressure for short periods this coming Tuesday through Friday.
A month after two Republican members of the Board of Selectmen campaigned against five sitting members of the Darien Republican Town Committee, the RTC sent a letter to the selectmen criticizing them for it.
Former Blue Wave softball star Erika Osherow made her collegiate softball debut with the University of Virginia yesterday, and from the looks of things the former All-State pitcher has picked up exactly where she left off since graduating last spring.
Copper “grounding pieces” near the bottom of the cell phone tower on Ledge Road were unscrewed and cut from the structure, a Sprint worker told Darien police on Feb. 4.
Arriving by taxi at the Brooks Brothers store at 987 Post Road and carrying a reusable shopping bag, a thin man with a penchant for free footwear walked all around the store on Jan. 22, according to police.
When he walked out, it was with nine pairs of shoes — with five of those pairs worth $1,120, police said. He left in the waiting taxi. The same man is suspected of stealing from the Brooks Brothers store in Westport.

An elderly Darien man, 87, wired $110 to a scammer who called the man to tell him he’d won $2.5 million in a lottery or contest, but the money was needed to process the payout, Darien police said.
Marion Morse Hoffman, 87, passed on peacefully on Jan. 28 in her Manchester, Vt. home in the company of her husband of 64 years, Alexander Carr Hoffman, and her children Susan Duane Hoffman and Peter Morse Hoffman.

The 39-year-old boyfriend of a woman living in an apartment over a downtown store got into a physical confrontation with staff at the store on Christmas Eve, including punching and spitting on a manager, police said.
The Board of Selectmen on Wednesday unanimously approved a 2016-2017 budget for town departments, capital projects and debt service that would lower next year’s overall spending (except for school spending) by 4.49 percent.
