Darien police have arrested a woman accused of being part of a team of burglars who stole a safe from a home on Maple Street on Jan. 28.
Police gave this account of the matter, including accusations not proven in court:
A burglar alarm alerted police to the Maple Street home, where a window had been broken to give thieves access inside. A small safe with cash in it was taken.
Police detectives later viewed surveillance videos from homes in the neighborhood. The recordings showed “multiple suspects” entering the property, as well as a vehicle apparently used by the burglars. Police didn’t say how many suspects were seen.
Police detectives were later contacted by an “out-of-state agency regarding possible suspects,” according to the police news release. Further investigation led to police accusing Yessica Garcia-Ahumada, 24, of 45th Avenue in the Flushing section of Queens, New York City, with driving the vehicle and acting as a lookout during the burglary.
On March 1, just over a month after the burglary, police were granted an arrest warrant for Garcia-Ahumada, charging her with conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny and second-degree criminal mischief.
On May 24, she was arrested and at some point released on a court-set bond of $100,000, according to the Connecticut. She is scheduled to appear Monday, June 5, in state Superior Court in Stamford.
