To the editor:
“Thank You” Darien!
The Food Pantry at Person-to-Person is fully stocked again thanks to the combined effort and generosity of the Darien community and the post office personnel and letter carriers who collected almost 2,200 bags of food during the Annual National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive to “Stamp Out Hunger” held on Saturday, May 14.
Again this year, Palmer’s Market generously donated the 6,500 paper bags that were delivered by the letter carriers to all Darien postal customers during the week prior to the food drive.
The enthusiastic support that is shown every year by the letter carriers as they pull into the P2P parking lot with bags of donated food in the back of their trucks is so evident to all the volunteers who have come to help unload the trucks.
More than 60 adults and children from local churches, schools and businesses, as well as many residents of Darien, volunteered their time to help unpack, sort and stack the food on the shelves at the P2P Food Pantry.
A welcome break from all the hard work was provided by members of the Masonic Club of Darien who set up a grill and provided the volunteers with hot dogs, hamburgers and refreshments, which they donated.
Thanks to all those who contributed so generously to help our neighbors. It is through contributions to this worthwhile cause that Person-to-Person was able to provide 233,688 meals last year to 1,652 families from Darien, Stamford and New Canaan.
If you would like to make a food donation to P2P, please drop the bag off at the Person-to-Person Food Pantry at 1864 Post Road, behind Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church.
