New Visual Arts Instructor at Darien Arts Center Will Teach Cartooning Class

The Darien Arts Center is happy to announce the addition of a new Visual Arts instructor, Emily Evans, who is teaching cartooning for 7-12 year olds on Mondays from 4:10-5:10 p.m. from Feb. 6 through May 22.

Evans is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan and draws and co-writes a monthly comic strip, Polly Tries.

She has previously worked as a teaching assistant at the Bush-Holly House in Greenwich and the Silvermine Art Guild in New Canaan.

In Evans’ cartooning class, students will design their own characters and learn to use one-panel cartoons and three-panel comic strips.

Television storyboards and caricature will be included and students will study facial expressions and body language.

Evans emphasizes individual instruction and utilizes dynamic on-the-spot demonstrations in her class. The fee for the class is $280, plus an annual $35 registration fee.
