“I am excited to participate in this work by sharing my experiences and by being an active and visible contributor to the teaching and learning community,” he said.
Byrne will start work in Greenwich on Nov. 5.
Folsom house is one of five houses at Greenwich High School, a school with about 2,700 students. According to the Greenwich Public Schools website:
- Entering students are randomly assigned to one of five Houses – Bella, Cantor, Clark, Folsom, and Sheldon. Each house has its own house administrator, guidance counselors, and other support services for students. The Houses adjoin a one-acre enclosed area called the Student Center which serves as a cafeteria, meeting hall, and place to relax between classes.
“Greenwich High School is excited about the extensive leadership experience and mathematics expertise Andrew Byrne brings to the school, said Rick Piotrzkowski, interim headmaster at Greenwich High School.
Byrne began his career in education in 1999 at Canterbury School in New Milford as a mathematics instructor. He moved to teaching at Sacred Heart Greenwich (formerly Convent of the Sacred Heart) the following year as a math and science instructor, where he remained until 2010.
During that time he also served as Mathematics Department Chair (2000-2010), Academic Dean for Grades 7-12 (2002-2003), and Dean of Faculty (2003-2010).
In 2010, Byrne was appointed assistant principal of Middlesex Middle School. He has also held positions as the co-president of the Darien Administrator Association (since 2015) and as acting co-principal for Royle Elementary School for a short time in 2014, assisting the district in an administrator transition.
Byrne received his bachelor’s degree in biology and mathematics from Bates College in 1998; his master’s degree in secondary education from the University of Massachusetts, Boston in 2000; and, in 2006, a master’s degree in education administration and supervision from Fordham University, where he participated in the university’s executive leadership program.
