A laptop valued at about $600 was stolen from St. Luke’s Parish School, likely by someone seen on the school’s surveillance video recordings, according to Darien police.

Police gave this account of the matter:

On June 7, school officials reported the theft of the Dell Vostro laptop to police after spending several days looking into the theft themselves.

According to a video shown to police, a man entered the building at about 3 p.m. on Friday, May 27 through the chapel area while a cleaning crew was working inside. The man was seen at several locations around the building before leaving at about 3:55 p.m., holding a medium-sized black garbage bag.

The room where the laptop had been was not locked, police were told. Neither teachers nor other staff recognized the suspect seen on the video, and no one at Person-to-Person, which is located directly behind the school (at the 1864 Post Road campus of the church), recognized the subject either.

Several organizations use the building on the weekend, police were told. It appeared from the video that the suspect was trying to avoid being seen while walking through hallways, according to police.

Nothing else was reported stolen from the school.
