Jane Bell Mackenzie, 72, a former resident of Darien, died peacefully at the N.C. Little Hospice on March 21, 2020.

Jane Mackenzie, 72, passed away on March 21. No funeral service is planned.

Jane was born Dec. 13, 1947 in Evanston, Illinois, the only child of Evelyn (nee Hanson) and Miles Ward Burleson. She grew up in Darien and moved to St. Paul in 1977.

She worked at the Red Balloon Book Shop from 1995 to 1999.

Afflicted by frontotemporal dementia diagnosed in 2004, Jane retired from the St. Paul School System as a nurse in 2006. She had been in the Allina Home Hospice program since the spring of 2016.

Jane is survived by Thomas, her spouse of 42 years; her children: Colin Mackkenzie, Abigail Ward Kerl and Rebecca Brook Ward; and grandchildren Gustin Mackenzie, Aurora Thomas, Lucia Bell, Hugo Mackenzie and Owen Blaise.
