The Darien Republican Town Committee has proposed David Brown of Revere Road to replace Elizabeth Hagerty-Ross, a former chairperson of the Board of Education and currently it’s vice chairperson, on this November’s ballot.

If the May 29 GOP caucus of party members in town endorses the choice, Brown will be on the ballot this November. Board of Education terms last three years, with three of the nine members up for election each year. Current board member Debra Ritchie, who was chosen to complete the remaining term of Sarah Zuro (who resigned), was also proposed by the RTC as a candidate when the town committee met on May 9.

Democrat Katherine Stein’s term on the Board of Education also ends this November. Under state minority-party representation rules, Democrats (or at least a non-Republican) would get one seat of the three up for election this year and Republicans can elect no more than two.

The only other candidate proposed by the GOP caucus for this November’s ballot is the current Registrar of Voters John Visi, proposed for re-election.

The caucus of all registered Republicans in town is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29, at Darien Town Hall Auditorium, 2 Renshaw Road. Attendees will need to bring photo identification for admission to the caucus. The caucus may either endorse the town committee’s slate of candidates or elect someone else who has petitioned for the endorsement.

Here’s what petition candidates will need in order to be considered by the caucus, according to the legal notice:

No less than five days before the date of the caucus (that is, before 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 24) the candidate will need to submit to the Republican Town Committee chairman Brent Hayes or SecretaryAnn Gail Hult (contact information for each is below) a declaration of candidacy with the signatures of 25 registered Republicans who live in Darien.
