One person was injured by an explosion late Sunday morning in a building near the bowling area at Wee Burn Country Club, police said.

“It was reported that one individual was injured and transported to the hospital” by Darien Emergency Services-Post 53, the Darien police news release said. No information on the extent of the person’s injuries, if any, was provided by police, nor that person’s condition.

A witness reported hearing a loud explosion in the bowling area, police said.

Police and firefighters from Noroton Heights Fire Department were called to the scene at 11:04 a.m. The building had already been evacuated before first responders arrived. “There were no other injuries reported at this time,” the news release said.

Damage was limited to the bowling area and some surrounding hallways at the country club, located at 410 Hollow Tree Ridge Road.

After the building was determined to be stable, the Darien Fire Marshal’s Office began an investigation, which continues, into the cause of the explosion. Darienite.com left a message with the Fire Marshal’s Office Tuesday afternoon for additional information.
