This second program presented by Norwalk Hospital and Wilton Library, will cover stress management, sleep disorders and the relationship between the two.

The program is the second event in the “Get Well, Stay Well: A health literacy series” presented by the library and the hospital.

As Shakespeare had Brutus say in Julius Caesar:

Enjoy the honey-heavy dew of slumber: thou hast no figures nor no fantasies, which busy care draws in the brains of men: therefore thou sleep’st so sound.

First, we’ll hear from Michelle Dailey, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist at Norwalk Hospital’s Whittingham Cancer Center. Ms. Dailey has been a member of the oncology support team there since 1999, providing psychosocial counseling, guidance, and support to patients and their families dealing with the stresses of cancer.

She received her Master of Family Therapy (MFT) from Southern CT State University where she served as adjunct faculty in the graduate school of marriage and family therapy from 2001-2010.

She is also a Certified Gestalt Therapist, routinely incorporating the use of mindfulness and attention to the present into her clinical practice. Ms. Dailey will teach us some helpful techniques for managing the stress in our lives.

Next, Dr. Ian Weir, DO, the Associate Director of the Sleep Disorders Center and Director of the Insomnia Center at Norwalk Hospital, will describe various challenges people face when trying to get a good night’s sleep and what we can do to improve our sleep experiences.

Dr. Weir received his B.A. degree in Chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree at Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

He completed his internal medicine training at Johns Hopkins University/Sinai Hospital of Baltimore and was selected for a Fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care at Yale University and Norwalk Hospital.

He later completed a Fellowship in Sleep Medicine at Norwalk Hospital during which, he led a research study which will be used to develop tool to screen for obstructive sleep apnea in surgical patients.

And as if these two experts were not enough, the program will be moderated by Wilton Library Trustee and MD Saras Nair who was previously Chairman of the Pathology Department at Norwalk Hospital. This interesting and informative program will certainly help you to relax, enjoy your life, and sleep well!

In this new quarterly series, Wilton Library will collaborate with Norwalk Hospital to present four programs per year on a variety of health and wellness topics.

The sessions may be lectures, presentations, or panel discussions covering topics relevant to kids, adults, seniors, men, or women.

Our goal is to inform, educate, and provide our community with valuable, timely and reliable medical information on a wide range of health and wellness topics.
