Darien Arts Center Expands Classroom Space, Music Faculty

An announcement from the Darien Arts Center:

Due to popular demand, The Darien Arts Center has expanded both classroom space and Music Department faculty to accommodate additional classes in piano, guitar, flute, drums, violin, composition and voice.

The additional faculty includes Max Pakhomov, Dan Hague, Jaana Narsipur, Megan Talay, Sharon Levin and Darien High School graduates Stephanie Wong, Zach Heyde and Will Bruno. They have joined Regina Elliott and Juanita Bosee, Music Director.

Offerings include both individual instruction and group classes, with violin offered for children as young as 3 years old and piano for those as young as 4. Vocal Divas!, a new six-week workshop in vocal performance for ages 7 to 12, focuses on classic pop and rock n’ roll styles.

The works of current popular singers including Katy Perry, Ariana Grande, Christina Perri and others will be explored. The fee for this workshop is $240, which will run on Tuesdays, September 8 through October 13, from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m.

Stephanie Wong, who will teach violin, viola, piano and flute at the DAC, has a double major in Music from the University of Rochester and studied violin at Eastman School of Music. Wong graduated from DHS in 2005 and also taught at the Darien Summer School Strings Program for nine years.

Darien resident Zach Heyde, an award-winning pianist, composer, and educator will teach Music Composition and piano. Heyde has a Bachelor of Music degree in Composition and Jazz Studies from the Hartt School of Music and has written music for several films.

Will Bruno (contributed)

Will Bruno, a native of Darien, will provide drum lessons at the Arts Center. Bruno graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music degree in performance from Berklee College of Music and has extensive experience performing with various jazz and rock bands and well-known artists.

Jaana Narsipur (contributed)

Jaana Narsipur (contributed)

Jaana Narsipur, who has a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice and Music History, a Music Education Teaching Certification, and MA in Jazz Performance, is a vocal instructor and music educator with over ten years of experience. Narsipur will lead the Vocal Divas! Workshop.

Daniel Hague will teach voice at the DAC. He is a Metropolitan Opera prizewinner, a University of Connecticut graduate with a degree in voice, and soloist and choir director at First Congregational Church in Darien.

Max Pakhomov, a principal pianist for the Bronx Opera Company will teach piano. He is a graduate of The Moscow Conservatory and organist at the First Congregational Church of Darien.

Sharon Levin (contributed)

Sharon Levin, flute instructor, holds a Master of Music degree in Flute Performance from Manhattan School of Music and a “Certificat de Musique de Chambre” (Chamber Music Certificate) from The Eclole Normale de Musique in Paris, France.

Megan Talay (contributed)

Megan Talay will teach guitar and piano. She has a BM from University of Miami Frost School of Music and extensive experience as a singer-songwriter and as a music instructor. She is Show Director at the School of Rock in Mamaroneck, NY and bassist for Village Voice Best Tribute Band, Guns ‘N Hoses.
