Darien Children’s Library invites all kids aged birth to 12 to participate in this year’s Summer Reading Club, “Darien Olympians: Go for the Gold!” Registration is set to open Monday, June 6.
Participants who register between June 6 and June 16 will be entered into a special raffle for a BB-8™ robot, and the Library will draw a winner on Friday, June 17 at 5:30 p.m.
The Library offers two Summer Reading options for children: one for pre-readers and one for solo readers. Pre-readers aged 5 and under are welcome to join the Read-to-Me Club and for every ten books they read with a grown-up they will receive a free book (up to three).
Independent readers up to age 12 are cordially invited to join the Summer Reading Club and accept the Olympic Reading Challenge of reading a range of 20 different genres and types of books.

Olympic Reading Challenge finishers will have their name entered into the Grand Prize Raffle. Just for registering to participate in either Summer Reading Club, all children will receive a brand-new free book.
The Library is set to host a Kick-off Concert for pre-readers on Thursday, June 9 from 11 to 11:45 a.m. Singer Mariana will bring a bilingual concert to Darien Library and have kids and families dancing to the beat.
The Library’s Olympic Reading Challenge Finale Party for the Summer Reading Club is slated for Thursday, August 18 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Library’s courtyard. Participants in grades K-6 are invited to the party, where children and parents will enjoy live music, raffles, food, and photo-ops. The winner of the Grand Prize Raffle will be announced. Registration for this very special event will begin Monday, August 1.
Additionally, readers may also participate in weekly Digital Demigods Challenges on the Library’s website to win prizes. New Challenges will be posted every Monday starting June 6.
