Barbara Gimbel of Arizona passed away on Jan. 8. The former Darien resident was 75.
Barbara was born in New York City and raised in Darien until she was 13 years old, when her family moved to Phoenix.
She attended Camelback High School and Phoenix Junior College, then became a Wildcat at the University of Arizona. She met her husband almost immediately and they were married in 1963.
Barbara quit college and began working when her first daughter was born. However, she did obtain her bachelor’s degree in 1981 from the University of Phoenix.
Nothing stopped Barbara from reaching her goals. She began her career as a secretary and worked her way up the corporate ladder in an era when women struggled to break through the glass ceiling. Barbara retired as a vice president of marketing/sales for Prudential.
