By the time a Brookside Road resident realized that her SUV had been entered overnight, her one of her missing cards had been used to buy food from a McDonald’s restaurant in Hartford, police were told.

It happened outside one of three homes where motor vehicles were entered overnight in Darien last week. During the same period, an SUV was stolen, also overnight, as the owner herself saw happen.

None of the police announcements mentioned evidence of the cars being broken into; some of the announcements said that a vehicle or vehicles were unlocked.

Police gave these accounts of what happened in each case from sometime Sunday night to Thursday morning, April 19 to 23:

Brookside Road, Monday to Tuesday, April 20 to 21

The victim, a resident of 283 Brookside Road, learned from her bank that one of her bank cards had already been used at a McDonald’s restaurant in Hartford, but when she called police at 10:33 a.m., Tuesday, April 21, she wasn’t sure how much had been spent.

The card had been in her purse, which also contained several other bank cards and a driver’s license, and the purse had been left in her 2015 Jeep Cherokee, which was parked in the driveway overnight, unlocked.

On this same night, on the other side of town, an SUV was stolen.

Cross Road, 1:38 AM, Monday, April 20

In the early hours of Monday, three unlocked vehicles were entered at 23 Cross Road, in the Tokeneke section of town, and a bit of money was stolen.

A security camera caught what appeared to be four juveniles around the victim’s vehicles at 1:38 a.m.

The juveniles, which police didn’t give any further description, including their gender or whether they appeared to be teenagers or younger, entered a 2017 Land Rover, a 2017 BMW X5 and a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Several dollar bills that had been in the cup holder of the Cherokee were taken, but nothing else appeared to be missing from any of the vehicles.

Middlesex Road, Wednesday to Thursday, April 22 to 23

A 2015 Audi Q5 parked outside a home 49 Middlesex Road , about five blocks from Stamford, was entered, and interior compartments of the SUV had been emptied, but nothing appeared to be missing.

The incident was reported to police at 8:31 p.m., Thursday and he said it had occurred sometime over the previous night.
