A burglar went through the trouble and worked up the nerve to, it seems, break a glass door on the side of Chipotle Mexican Grill at 71 Post Road to get into the restaurant.

And, at least so far, he’s gotten away with doing that. He was gone by the time police arrived. But that was the only lucky thing that happened to him.

Police were alerted at 12:06 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 27 by a security company monitoring video camera feeds at the restaurant, according to an announcement from the Police Department. Police were told that the cameras showed the burglar “trashing” the interior.

The burglar not only left the scene without being caught, he also took a cash register with him. Restaurant employees told police that there was no money in it.

Police did not release the surveillance video or images from it. They did release a description of the burglar: a black male wearing gray sweatpants and a sweatshirt with a black hood (please tell police if you saw him in the neighborhood at that time).

If the thief could have taken the money without the cash register, that would have been much easier. If the thief had to pry open the cash register to discover his bad luck, he’s left with a damaged cash register. If the thief wanted to sell a stolen, damaged cash register, where would he find a buyer for it?
