The reason why residents are asked to flatten cardboard before putting it in single stream recycling is because cardboard boxes take up a lot of space in the roll-off container, as seen here, causing it to fill up more quickly than it needs to.
Please take the simple step of flattening large cardboard boxes before putting them in single stream recycling!
