George Walsh Jr. passed away on Jan. 6. His funeral was on Jan. 12.

He was born July 9, 1927 in Yonkers, N.Y. George graduated from All Hallows High School where he was captain of the varsity baseball team and remained a dedicated alumnus in support of generations of students. He then graduated from Iona College in New Rochelle, N.Y.

George served in the Navy in World War II and in the Army in the Korean War. He was married to his beloved wife Elizabeth Bleakley on Jan. 6, 1951.

He was a partner at the investment firm Auchincloss, Parker and Redpath and last associated with Gilford Securities in New York City, before he retired.

With his expertise in finance, George helped a broad array of companies develop successful growth strategies. This included companies in the pharmaceutical, capital equipment, beverage, and architectural engineering industries.

He served on the Finance Committee of the St. Vincent De Paul Seminary in Boynton Beach, Fl. George was a lifelong sports enthusiast and enjoyed his later years golfing, reading history, drawing and also embraced the camaraderie of the Quail Ridge Country Club community. George especially loved spending time with his wife, family and friends.

George is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty); four children: Kathleen W. Rogers and husband Peter of Darien, Kevin P. Walsh of Norwalk, Peter D. Walsh and wife Rachel of New Canaan, George C. Walsh III of Norwalk; nine grandchildren, eight great grand children, half-brother Michael Walsh of Cape Cod, half-sister Debbie Walsh of Cape Cod, half-brother Dennis Walsh of Jupiter, Fl. George was predeceased by his sister, Helene, and brother, John.

He was genuinely loved by all who knew him. Dedication to family and friends were the ballast in his life. His love, laughter and warm smile will be missed.

A memorial Mass was celebrated on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017 at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church in Delray Beach, Fl.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary 10701 South Military Trail Boynton Beach, FL 33436 in memory of George C. Walsh Jr.
