Town residents already make Darien Library one of the busiest, per capita, in the state, but those who work in town but live elsewhere can also get a Darien Library card and get the free benefits — including business databases, tech classes and one-on-one help.
Darien Library is reaching out to both residents and people who don’t live in Darien but work here to show everyone what’s available at the library and to make it convenient to get a library card. Here’s their announcement about that:
September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, a time when the nation’s public libraries highlight the value of a library card. In partnership with this national program, the Darien Library is inviting the entire community to register and learn about the wealth of resources the library provides.
In addition to being a center for knowledge and learning, Darien Library has evolved into a first-class research center, technology hub, and community cornerstone, serving tens of thousands of individuals a year.
Beyond traditional materials, the Library offers a state-of-the-art technology center, ongoing technology classes, meeting space, business center and services, 3-D printing, a Bloomberg Terminal, Agati Media Station, e-books, e-audiobooks, and digital magazines plus unique events for both adults and children.
As part of this national campaign, Darien Library is inviting local businesses and workers to register for a library card.
“One of the best-kept secrets in the town is any full-time employee of a Darien business can register for a library card and have access to all of the Library’s resources. A Darien Library card is really the best perk card in town,” said Alan Gray, director of the library.
The Library will be hosting events throughout the month to encourage library card sign-ups.
- The public is invited to an Open House at Darien Library on Sept. 21 from 5 to 7 p.m.
- The Library will also be registering people at the Darien Farmers Market in Goodwives Shopping Center on Sept. 14 and 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
To register for a Darien Library card, a person needs to be a resident of Darien, work full-time in the town or become a friend of the library through a donation of $300 dollars or more.
In addition, cardholders from any library in the state may cross-register their card in Darien for library privileges. At the time of registration, Darien residents should bring proof of address and full-time employees should bring a pay-stub or proof of employment.
